Strategies: intersections

The 50-meter (160 ft) long one-way Theatergasse in Salzburg is reserved for buses. This allows multiple bus routes to run along one of the city’s main corridors, linking the city center to the railway stations while skipping a signalized intersection to enter Markplatz. It works similarly to a slip lane, but only for transit, and it also functions as a queue-jump, as it continues from a long curb-adjacent lane. General traffic can enter the square only through the main intersection and must yield to buses before merging back into the shared lane.

In the opposite direction, only transit is allowed to enter Marktplatz from Dreifaltigkeitsgasse, the main street coming from the Central station, along a contraflow transit lane (F1). These arrangements greatly simplify the node’s traffic management, giving transit priority over limited local traffic.
