Stockholm: Jarlplan
Tools: f1-f2
Strategies: intersections
A short contraflow transit lane in Jarlplan allows the lines 2 and 96 buses coming from Birger Jarlsgatan to turn left into Odengatan’s center-running transit lane, one of the busiest bus trunks on the Northern side of Stockholm’s city center, bypassing the major intersection one block to the East. This very short contraflow bus lane allows buses only to access Roslagsgatan from the south, making it a street for mostly local traffic. Local traffic can access part of the northbound lane of the street, but only from a lateral street accessible only to southbound vehicles on Birger Jarlsgatan. This prevents it from being used as a shortcut by general traffic, which still uses the main intersection to run left, while buses can skip the left-turning queues and enjoy the active transit signal priority. Functionally, this setup is equivalent to a queue jump.
