Strategies: divert-through-trafficintersections
Römerstrasse in Ulm is an important transit corridor carrying tram line 2 from the southeastern periphery into the city center. At the five-leg intersection in Römerplatz, a modal filter (N1) prevents general through traffic from using the last 300 meters of Römerstrasse. Local traffic can still access and exit the street on that side via a right-in/right-out (L3) configuration outside of the signal-controlled intersection. This setup prevents inbound and outbound through traffic from using the narrowest segment of the street (less than 14 meters between property lines), which is designed as a shared street for local accessibility and transit. Upstream of the intersection, a 150 m-long (500 ft) inbound queue-jump (G1) transit lane provides effective transit priority for inbound trams, while outbound trams circulate in mixed traffic.
