Via Montello, Via Farini, and Via Bramante represent two main public transportation axes leading into Milano’s city center from the North, converging at Piazza Lega Lombarda. However, due to their narrowness, they represent a potential bottleneck, as they aren’t wide enough to reserve dedicated transit lanes alongside general traffic. A mix of priority measures, notably Contraflow Transit Lanes (F1) and a short Transit Street (A1) have been deployed to cut through traffic. Along via Bramante (tram lines 12 and 14), a short contraflow transit lane prevents northbound through traffic from using it. Southbound, the trams run in mixed traffic, but the street is part of a local ZTL (Limited Traffic Area) targeting specifically large trucks, which are prevented from entering, as illegal delivery parking was a major source of delays. Along via Montello and Farini (tram lines 2, 4), a short transit-only segment and several short segments of alternate-direction contraflow bus lanes prevent through traffic from using this route while providing local access. A similar design is used by the same tram line 31 in the center of Cinisello Balsamo, a suburban municipality in Milan's northern suburbs.
